***Side note…it is currently 45 and drizzling outside right now…GIVE IT UP Ice Cream Truck driver person! No one is going to come running outside right now to buy cold ice cream in freezing weather! Ava just came running in the living room asking why she heard the Ice Cream truck! Even my 5 year old said it’s too cold for ice cream. Silly, silly people.
Layla and I started dinner at 10 this morning. We made my Grandma’s Tortilla Soup. Comfort food! It’s great for our icky weather. My Mom got me “Onion Goggles” for Christmas. I have a hard time not crying when I cut onions, yes, I have tried all the tricks. I used to wear my old ski goggles. I was a hoot to see.
I pulled the glasses out today to help Layla out with her crying issues…
She wore them the whole time!
Chopping the garlic for me.
She was so anxious to stir something, so I let her stir the veggies after I cut them.
10:30 in the morning and it’s time to get our soup together so it can simmer all day and smell the house up with all it’s yumminess!
Pouring in the diced tomatoes and even Tabasco for me!
She didn’t have such good luck with the corn…thank goodness I caught it before a disaster happened and we actually had corn turning into popcorn in the flame of the stove!
And we’re done with it. Well, I cooked the chicken separately, I have an issue with cooking raw chicken with everything else. So I always add it after I cook it separately. Now I just let it simmer until dinner time.
Ava thought the glasses were “cool”, so she wore them to make the pudding.
It was Ava’s first time making something with the mixer. She kept wanting to press buttons. I had to explain there were no buttons. Then she tried to push the lever while it was mixing! NOOOOO, unless you want to be sprayed by the liquid mixture that’s in there! So I made her keep her hands on the counter at all times!
Ready for the oven!
Poof…45 minutes later…YUM!
And then the icing…I do have to say, the Brandy smell, even though it was a tiny amount…it got to me. Next time, I think I will leave the Brandy out. But it’s still delish…and sooo fattening and bad!
I have to admit, the smell of tortilla soup simmering and bread pudding baking did not mesh well. ha! So we ate dinner early while the pudding was baking.
I’m lazy and use tortilla chips at the bottom of the bowl.
Then the soup and topped with cheese…
We love this soup! It is Jason’s favorite, so when you finally get to read this honey, I’m sorry for teasing you with it!
The recipe will be in the “Recipe” page.
I had to go to our winery today. We are members of a local winery out here…Wilson Creek Winery. We fell in love with their wines and champagne when we went on a wine tour. But what really sold us on it is that it is family owned, their golden retrievers roam the property everyday, come into the wine tasting room and all around the creek and picnic area. The picnic area has a swingset and tables all around. So we take the girls there with a picnic lunch, let them play, eat and we have a glass of wine. We love going there. Anyways, because we are members, we get 2 bottles of wine and 2 bottles of their Almond Champagne every other month. So…it was will call time and I had to pick up our wines!
Jackpot! My favorite of their wines was included…White Cabernet Sauvignon!(Natalie, that’s what I got you.)
And as I write this, I am enjoying a glass, maybe 2…with a Strawberry! I have to use these strawberries I stocked up on!
And now…I need to go stalk the weather!

Mmm..I'm so scared to open that bottle I bought when I was with you..I don't want it to be gone! Maybe we'll have to send you money to stock up for us when you come home!
