Ava has a project that is due on Friday. She had to create a bug to present to the class and to display on open house night! I let Ava take complete control of this. I gave her a few ideas and then just let her tell me what to do. We started talking about it on Saturday and coming up with a plan...and this is how it turned out. Again, this is all Ava....except for me using the hot glue gun!
Ava making the antennas.
I love how much she is concentrating! The finished antenna product!
Now, making the wings.
Her bug...with a face, she made sure to make a smile! The silver is a bow she insisted on, they are not the eyes. ha ha. She asked me why the bug's face was crooked, oops, Mommy's fault with the glue! So I told her the bug was just looking to the side!
And now, the finished product! The balls on the side are...in Ava's words..."they are like spikes, so no one can hit her out of the air when she's flying!" She has SUCH an imagination!
And in her home...the cotton balls are clouds because she is flying, and the little tree branches are her food!
This project was a lot of fun! I really had a great time following HER instructions on what to do! She is so creative! Oh, and I caught her feeding Gabbi, that's what she named her!
Now, DINNER! Pesto Chicken Panini! The girls played a major role tonight. Basically, they made the entire dinner!
After I realized they were barefoot, I made them go put on socks. Actually, I think it was after I kept smelling something funky that I made them. ha!
The girls spreading the mayo and pesto mixture on the bread. The recipe called for ciabatta, but I used rustic french bread since I already had it.
Of course Ava has a mouthful of bread! I cut off the "butt" of the bread and she begged to eat it. She loves the end!
And now pulling the stems off of the fresh spinach. Are they called stems? It sounds funny.
Ava's technique was a bit "rough". I think she was trying to show off with doing a handful at a time!
I marinaded the chicken tenders in pesto for about 30 minutes before I cooked them. I also cut them in half, if you're wondering why they look funny!
Now comes the real fun part...building the sandwiches!
Mozzarella cheese! I'm cheap and didn't want to buy already sliced cheese...so I bought a chunk and cut it myself! I think it saved me a dollar...maybe?
And of course, there were two slices left over, so the girls jumped on them!
Now the spinach!
And tomatoes!
They attacked the leftover tomatoes as well!
Finally, fresh basil! If only my basil plants would hurry up and finish growing so I don't have to spend $3 every time I need basil!
The girls were very proud of their work! And it looks beautiful!
Into the panini press! A big THANKS to Shannon for letting me borrow hers! It was my first time making a panini and I didn't know how well it would work, so I didn't want to buy a press. NOW, tomorrow I am stopping at Target on our way home from speech to grab one! I think I'm hooked on it!
This recipe was awesome! Ava constantly had her mouth full, so when I asked her how it was, she could only give me a thumbs up. Layla kept saying how much she loved dinner! I will definitely put this recipe on the recipe page!
Dinner!
