Tangled, Aprons and Fish

Today was the day Ava has been waiting for for months…Tangled is FINALLY at our discount theatre! I refuse to pay the regular 12 bucks a ticket to see a movie in the regular theatre. Today, it cost us more to buy popcorn than all 3 of our tickets together. The girls loved the movie. It was a great “Princess” movie and worth the wait. Just sitting next to Ava and listening to her laugh when she was supposed to laugh and get nervous when she was supposed to get nervous. She got it all. I cried at the end. No one told me the good guy dies and then comes back to life. Weird.

After the movie we came home and I made the girls aprons. I’m trying to teach myself how to sew. I started with nothing but fabric and ribbon…
and ended up with cute little things that actually resemble kids aprons. Ava wanted pockets but I decided they were cute the way they were and didn’t want to risk ruining them.
Then we had to finish making our dinner…Fish Tacos from last night. We made coleslaw…
and then a Tomato, Grilled Corn and Black Bean salad. I had a recipe to follow but ended up going way off and took it in my own direction. The recipe didn’t even call for Black Beans. Oops. First I got the corn ready to be grilled.
Then the Red Onion which made Layla cry. She’s just like her Mommy. She needs a pair of goggles too!
The girls were great mixers in their cute aprons. Barefoot and all. There is no telling how many times they taste tested and then put their spoons back in the bowl to mix more.
Finally the corn was nice and grilled. It was actually the first time I have ever grilled it…yummy…especially with the chili powder! The girls taste tested it as well quite a bit while I was cutting it…Ava always went for the corn kernels covered in chili powder.
The girls helped me chop Cilantro…they love pushing on that chopper…Ava must have a lot of frustration to get out!
And now sadly their mixing came to an end…after 30 minutes of stirring. Our “kind of” made up salad was complete! Then Ava said she was done cooking and asked to watch TV in the man cave. Of course, Layla stayed with me to help with the fish. Fish…I have never in my life cooked fish. I hope it was done!
Actually, it was probably over cooked. And one of the filets fell apart so we only had 3 to eat. How do you prevent that from happening when you turn them? Guess I will have to learn and experiment with fish more before Jason comes home. The Fish Tacos actually turned out mediocre…after all that hard work. I say that because of the Pico De Gallo that I put on them. It was awful! That’s what I get for buying it and not making it! The fish on the other hand, I couldn’t even tell it was fish! Ava thought it was chicken. Then again, she’ll eat anything! The sides were wonderful!
And of course, I can’t forget about the BIRTHDAY GIRL! Happy 5th birthday to the most amazing dog (horse) ever! Here’s Stella with one of her birthday presents…poor rabbit!
