Are You Wondering About My Weeds?

I told you… you haven’t heard the last of my “weed” problem! Ready for more?

Yes, I worked in the backyard all day today…well aside from doing 2 assignments and submitting them.
My goal was to pick each individual weed out by the roots. ha ha ha! I am laughing very loud at myself, what the hell was I thinking. After about 30 minutes outside, I had accomplished to pull maybe 10 weeds out of the million back there.

I had to regroup and think about what I was doing. But my mind has been set that “I can do this”. Yeah, I can’t! So I weeded the beds. I ran into a bit of a problem when I found Stella sunbathing in one of the weed beds. Yes, I am going to add a picture. Although I am EXTREMELY ashamed of how our backyard looks. This way, when I write MANY more blog posts about my terrible weeds, you get an idea of what I am dealing with!

Stella and just a teeny, tiny idea of what the weeds look like!

And THIS is what the weeds have done to our grass!

OK, so maybe the weeds didn’t kill those patches of grass. I did. ON COMPLETE ACCIDENT! It’s still the weed’s fault! The last time I sprayed the weeds, I ACCIDENTLY used Roundup. Yeah, turns out I didn’t read far enough ahead of the directions until it was too late. Yes, it’s to kill weeds AND grass. It was a total accident! I am still kicking myself in the butt for that one!

But, in all honesty, it comes back to the neighbors and their LACK of landscaping! I hope I won’t get in trouble for this…but I took a picture of the neighbor’s backyard. BOTH neighbors on both sides of us…this is what their backyards look like…

Those weeds are about as tall as Layla. She might get lost in those! Fine, enough blaming my neighbors, but it REALLY is all their fault I’m breaking my back out there!

So, I weed eated? How do you spell that? Anyways, I did that to the front and back yard and then mowed. At least mowing makes the weeds blend in! ha!

I bought a new weed killer to attach to the hose and spay on the yard. Genius! I also bought some grass seed…so I tilled up the bare spots and sprinkled it. Luckily though…I have wisened up a bit…and I actually read the directions all the way through! It read…DO NOT TREAT LAWNS WITH WEED KILLER BEFORE OR AFTER laying seed. Then it went on to tell me that I have to wait until this new grass has been established enough that I have mowed 3 or 4 times before I can apply a weed killer.

Seriously. So yes, I did actually do the seed before I read that…but it was before I sprayed the lawn. So basically, now I have to go back to my original plan of plucking every damn weed! This is so not fun.

The only good news out of all of this, is that I got my garden bed prepped and ready to plant my veggies. And right on time! My Basil and Oregano started sprouting today!

If you can’t see them, don’t worry, neither can I in the picture, but I promise, there are little alien fingers poking out!

Now, getting my backyard into shape could not come at a better time. Granted, it will not be beautiful by the time that I need it to. My best friend Natalie…since we were 5!! Is coming out here to see me! OK, she is not coming out here just to see ME…but she’s coming! Her and her husband Matt will be here next Sunday!

When I am at their house…I sit out on their deck drinking coffee watching fish swim and birds fly…

When they come to my house for the first time…well, they get to sit outside and watch the weeds grow!

I tried to hide one of the big bare spots in our grass with our patio furniture. Yes, we have a patio, but I decided to move our sitting area to disguise the bareness…plus…we can sit and watch the garden grow! I put the white fencing up to prevent the dogs from getting in. I need a few more pieces though.

Yes, it’s corny. And you can see the bare spots that I have yet to fill with seed. I ran out of course.

On purpose, I will not be showing you the other side of the yard where the swingset and porch are. It’s UGLY!

So, now you ask, what’s for dinner?

DELIVERY! Pizza and salad! The salad makes it better, right? ha ha!
