A Post About Fruits and Veggies!

I have been informed that it has been a week since my last blog...life has been uneventful. Which is nice, because I know that is about to change. I have been doing a lot of shopping lately...I have to get it in before Jason gets home...plus I wanted to make sure he has new clothes to come home to.

Mother's Day was interesting to say the least. The girls did not get up until 9:30...score one for Mommy! I got beautiful flowers from Jason and an egg pie from the girls. What is an egg pie? Well, let me try to explain.

I had a bright idea to groom Cali myself. ha ha ha ha! She is half shaved and half trimmed with scissors. Jason is not going to be thrilled that I used his clippers on dirty Cali. This took me an hour...and while I was sitting on the bathroom floor shaving Cali, unknown the me...Ava was in the kitchen making me a pie. Yep.

I walked into the kitchen and Ava was standing at the counter stirring a bowl full of eggs, marshmallows, milk, salt and pepper. Want to know how many eggs she cracked herself into that bowl...16!

I took a few videos of this...Ava even had a menu written out about her special pies. I'm not posting the videos though because Ava was only in her panties.

I had to give in and actually bake this concoction...luckily...I DO have a picture of the final product!
I was a good sport and had a bite...it was like taking a bite out of a salt rock!
After the girls went to bed that night, it went in the trash. ha ha.

Today was very exciting for me! We joined a Farm Co-op and today was our first harvest delivery. It's all organic and picked within 24 hours of delivery. Every week our harvest will be different, it all depends on what is in season and ready to be picked. I am really looking forward to this every week!

Our first weekly harvest.
Are you ready for the breakdown...I will break it down "barney" style since some of this stuff I have never heard of! But you know how much I love trying and cooking new things! I am so looking forward to this...how many times have I said that?
Zucchini and crooked neck yellow squash.
Kohlrabi...ever heard of it? It's related to cabbage, I think? I will be looking up recipes for this one!
Ah man, I can't remember what these things are called. ha.
Beets! I am actually really looking forward to working with these. I want to have a salad with them!
Radishes. I already tried these! Delicious! And they have a nice "kick".
You can figure this one out!
Bet you have never seen these before...maybe you have, Romanesco. It's a cross between broccoli and cauliflower. Again, I'm really looking forward to cooking these! I think I will roast them!
I had to look these up, too...Tatsoi. I've read that it's a lot like spinach and great if just sauteed with garlic, salt and pepper.
Cilantro...
Lettuce mix.
Collard Greens.
Leek! I'm going to make a chicken, leek and mushroom soup this weekend.
I didn't get a picture of one...swiss chard.

I washed every thing and then prepared it to go in the fridge. I wanted it to be clean and ready to use when I want it...so I had to make ALOT of room in my fridge! Don't mind the drunken sailor...
After the washing.
Their new home!
Layla could not wait to try one of the oranges. I got the seal of approval from her!

Tonight I am using the lettuce mix, cilantro and oranges for dinner. We are having a steak salad. I made the dressing from the cilantro, lime juice, olive oil, garlic, oninon and a tad of vinegar...I pureed it all and then mixed the salad with it and also marinated the steaks in it! We also had a zucchini on the side!
Tonight's dinner.

So, if you happen to have any recipes using the above mentioned veggies...let me know!

As you all know, Jason will be home very soon. I'm not giving a date...or updating our countdown because as we all know, odds are the date may change. So...Ava and I have decided that as we leave the house to pick up Jason...I will take a picture of the girls in front of the "welcome home" banner and post it...that will be how you know it's here!

By the way...the end of this deployment SUCKS! Ava is getting more and more emotional, every night asking why it can't be tomorrow when Daddy comes home. I'm running out of things to keep me busy and Layla...well she is just Layla. She told me the other day that when Daddy comes home, she won't be cuddling with me anymore. She wants all of her cuddle time to be with Daddy. Fine by me...I'm not complaining! ha. But, she did say that when Daddy is busy...she will cuddle with me. Cute!

That's all I've got for now. I know I'm missing things...
